Autism Acceptance Month

This month, we celebrate and recognize the many diverse and varied experiences across the Autism spectrum.

It’s important to engage with people in ways that honor their experiences, strengths, and challenges. We should not just talk about acceptance but act on it, too.

So even though April is designated as Autism Acceptance Month, the spirit of acceptance occurs daily. Acceptance is a big idea that looks different for everyone. It starts by acknowledging that everyone’s experiences are valid and creating a space where all members of the Autism community can share their thoughts openly, without worrying about being judged. It can be including someone who thinks differently in your group, advocating for services even if you don’t need them, or making accommodations to ensure everyone can do their best. Acceptance is making deliberate choices that help the people around you feel welcomed and safe.
